Business Challenge

A team of two founders, based out of Bangalore approached Codewave to bring their idea to life – an online platform for research scientists who are passionate about contributing to impactful inventions for the welfare of the society. The platform was primarily targeted for the scientists community & research enthusiasts who have ground breaking ideas and carry out ingenius, valuable work – however not actively socializing ideas & perspectives on online forums. Our in person meeting with the founders, led to a series of conversations, during when we elaborated the product features and the capabilities they needed developed in the first phase.

The online platform for research scientists and enthusiasts, first cut was expected to be launched in 5 months from inception. The platform had to be looked at from various perspectives for market readiness – usability for scientists, integration with cognitive services for identification & categorization of user uploaded content, content sourcing model, feeds & profiles and technology stack. Client chose Web for the initial launch and a web admin app to support business operations.

Solution

Codewave designed and developed the online social platform for research scientists, enabling research enthusiasts to signup, create a profile, upload their work and follow peers & leaders through their work. Users can follow latest research work happening in various fields and receive updates from their connections. The platform was built on NodeJS backend (Read How Uber Uses Node.js to Scale Their Business ) and was technically challenging in many ways – like visualizing author impact metrics and generating citation trends, based on realtime data.

The project was originally planned for 5 months, however the timeline extended as Codewave was recouping through a crisis. The platform is ready for market, and is expected to gain traction among students in premier educational institutions.
